What Comes With Every Can-Am X3 Rental
Underpowered, beat-up machines. Tired suspension, worn seats, and engines that struggle on the first real climb. Premium prices for used-up gear.
No trail guidance. No maps, no briefing, no idea where the good riding is. You burn half the day figuring out where to go.
Add-on fees for the basics. Helmets, goggles, the maps. Every item is another line on the bill.
No weather protection. Storm rolls in? Tough luck. Your deposit is gone and your day is ruined.
We built Wave and Ridge to be the opposite of all of that.

RZR vs Can-Am Maverick X3: What You Are Actually Renting
A RZR is a Polaris sport side-by-side. The Can-Am Maverick X3 is a turbocharged sport side-by-side from a different brand, built for the same kind of riding: you sit in a seat, steer with a wheel, and cover rocky desert trail. If you have ridden a RZR, the X3 will feel familiar in what it is for. We are not able to rent you a Polaris, and we would rather say that up front.
| Feature | Polaris RZR | Our Can-Am Maverick X3 |
|---|---|---|
| Class | Sport side-by-side (UTV) | Sport side-by-side (UTV) |
| Brand | Polaris | Can-Am. We do not rent Polaris RZRs |
| Seats | Varies by model | 4 seats in every unit we rent |
| Power and travel | Varies by model | Rotax turbo, 135 HP, 20 inches of suspension travel |
| Getting to the trail | Varies by rental shop | Street-legal in Arizona: after pickup you drive it from our lot to Bulldog Canyon, about 5 minutes. No trailer needed |
| Included with ours | Varies by rental shop | Helmets and goggles for four, iPad with offline trail maps, walkthrough |
How a self-guided rental works
Pick up at 724 E Scenic St in Apache Junction. We run a 15-to-20-minute walkthrough of the controls and the terrain, load the iPad with offline trail maps, then you drive yourself to the trail. There is no guide on the ride, and we do not meet you at the trailhead. Pickup-only, every time.
If you need a specific Polaris model
If you need a specific Polaris model, we are not the shop for you. If you want the same kind of ride, a turbocharged side-by-side on desert trails with room for your group, the X3 is what we have. The renter and every driver must be 25 or older with a valid driver's license.
Check current rates on our pricing page, read the full Can-Am X3 rental page, or if you were searching for a four wheeler, see our note on ATV rentals near Phoenix.

How a Self-Guided Rental Works
Book online in 90 seconds
Half day, full day, or overnight. Pick your date, pay the deposit, done. Buy your Bulldog Canyon permit on Recreation.gov before your ride.
Pick up and gear up
Pickup is only at 724 E Scenic St in Apache Junction. Wave & Ridge does not meet customers at trailheads. Helmets fitted, iPad maps on the dash, and a 15-to-20-minute walkthrough of the machine and the trails — then you drive the street-legal X3 to Bulldog or tow farther if you rented a trailer.
Drive to the trail and ride
The X3 is street-legal. Bulldog Canyon is a short drive from our front door, so you drive straight there. No trailer, no towing, no extra cost.
Three ways to get the X3 on dirt
Ride from our shop
Pick up, do the briefing, and drive the street-legal X3 straight to Bulldog Canyon and the nearby trail access points. Drive it back when you are done.
Included
Add a trailer
Tow to Box Canyon or Four Peaks, or take the machine back to your campsite. Needs a 2-inch hitch receiver and a minimum 5,000-lb tow rating. Most full-size trucks and larger SUVs handle it.
From $80/day
Rent a U-Haul pickup
The U-Haul location a short drive from our shop rents pickup trucks. Reserve one the morning of your rental if you need to tow the X3 yourself to a farther trailhead — we still do not meet you there; pickup stays at our shop.
First time? Just pick up at the shop and drive to Bulldog Canyon. Save the trailer for the long routes on your second trip.
Where You'll Ride
Where to Ride After Pickup

Most Popular
Bulldog Canyon
5 min from our shop
Flat dirt roads to moderately technical rock, all inside the Tonto National Forest. Permit required, and you buy it on Recreation.gov. Great for first-timers and families.
Advanced Routes
Apache Trail Corridor
Longer ride, more elevation
An out-and-back past Canyon Lake and Tortilla Flat, up close to Apache Lake, with plateau views dropping into the canyon. Dramatic scenery the whole way.
Experienced Riders
Four Peaks Area
Trailer recommended
Steep grades, loose rock, and conditions that change with the weather. On a clear day you can see all the way to the Phoenix metro. Not a beginner route.

RZR Rental FAQ: Polaris, Razor Searches and the Can-Am X3
No. Wave and Ridge has no Polaris RZRs in the fleet. We rent a 4-seat, street-legal Can-Am Maverick X3 side-by-side, which is the same class of vehicle. If you need a specific Polaris model, we are not the right rental.
They are the same class: sport side-by-sides (UTVs) built for rocky desert trail riding. The X3 is a Can-Am, not a Polaris, so the brand and details differ.
The Can-Am Maverick X3 we rent has 4 seats. If your group is bigger than four, contact us before you book and we will talk through options.
The renter and every driver must be 25 or older with a valid driver's license.
Yes. Helmets and goggles for up to four riders come with every rental. Arizona law requires a DOT-approved helmet for every occupant under 18; for adults we recommend one, which is why we include them.
Yes. Every rental includes an iPad with offline GPS trail maps for Bulldog Canyon, the Apache Trail and the Tonto National Forest. iPads can overheat in extreme heat, so download the onX Offroad app on your phone as a backup.
Every rental goes out with a full tank. Return it full, or pay the cost of fuel plus a $20 refueling fee. The X3 takes 91 octane or higher. Monday-Thursday jet ski and UTV rentals get Weekday Gas on Us: bring it back at any fuel level and we skip the fuel charge.
Most riders drive the X3 from our lot straight to Bulldog Canyon, about 5 minutes away. A Bulldog Canyon permit is required: buy yours on Recreation.gov before you ride. For farther trails you can add a trailer. The Apache Trail is a longer ride.
It is self-guided: you get a walkthrough and trail maps, then you drive yourself. Rentals are pickup-only at 724 E Scenic St, Apache Junction, and we do not meet renters at trailheads.
