How a river day actually goes
Pick up in Apache Junction
Boards, paddles, and life jackets load into almost any vehicle: truck bed, roof, or back seat with the seats down. You're rolling in 15 minutes.
Launch on the Lower Salt
Morning water is glass and the lots are empty. Put in at Pebble Beach or Phon D Sutton, both about 25 minutes from our shop.
The wild horse stretch
The herds graze the banks most mornings. Give them space and drift past quietly; they could not care less about you.
Sandbar stop
Beach the boards, swim, eat the snacks you packed. This is the part everyone's phone runs out of storage on.
Your call
Half-day crews load up and beat the heat home. Full-day boards stay out until the canyon light goes gold.
You won't be the only ones out there.
Wild horses live along the Lower Salt River year-round and come down to the banks to graze most mornings. Keep about fifty feet between you and them, let the current do the work, and they'll carry on like you're part of the scenery. There is no better photo on any rental we offer.
Straight off the water
Recent trips on our boards. Sunrise launches, golden-hour floats, and more dogs than we expected.
The honest logistics
No surprises at pickup. Here is exactly what a paddleboard day takes.
What comes with the board
The board, an adjustable paddle, ankle leash, and a life jacket for every paddler. Never been on one? We do a quick land lesson at pickup and you'll be standing inside ten minutes.
Getting it to the water
Boards ride in a truck bed, on a roof, or in the back of an SUV with the seats down. We help you load and strap everything at the shop, and the river launches are about 25 minutes away.
River passes
Lower Salt River sites like Pebble Beach and Phon D Sutton require a Tonto Daily Pass ($8 per vehicle). Grab one at most gas stations on the way out, or buy it online before you leave.
Cancellation and deposit
Cancel 48+ hours out for a full refund; inside 48 hours there is no refund. If a storm is forecast for your day, contact us before launch and we'll reschedule at no charge. The $150 deposit per board is released the same day you return it.
Quick answers
I've never paddleboarded. Will I spend the whole day swimming?
No. These are wide, stable boards built for rentals, not racing blades. Start on your knees, find the balance, then stand up one foot at a time. Most first-timers are standing within ten minutes, and the Salt's current is gentle enough to forgive the learning curve.
Can I bring my dog?
Please do. Half the photos on this page are dogs. The deck pads handle claws fine; just bring water for them and let them ride up front where they can see. A doggy life vest is a good idea for deep-water swimmers.
Where should we paddle?
The Lower Salt River is the classic: moving water, canyon scenery, and the wild horses. If you'd rather have stillwater, Saguaro Lake and Canyon Lake both have calm coves. Everything is within about 30 minutes of our Apache Junction shop, and we'll point you to the right launch for the day's conditions.
Do we have to wear life jackets?
Every board goes out with one. Arizona requires a life jacket on board for each paddler outside designated swim areas, and kids 12 and under need to wear theirs. Adults can strap it to the bungee on calm water; on the river we recommend wearing it.
How does the deposit work?
We hold a $150 refundable deposit per board when you pick up. Bring everything back in the shape it left, and the hold is released the same day. That's it.
