Damage Protection
Three plans that cap what you owe if the equipment gets hurt. Pick one at checkout, cut your deposit hold, and know your worst-case number before you launch.
Without it, the repair bill is yours. All of it.
Your rental agreement makes you responsible for damage to the equipment during your rental, without a ceiling: parts, labor at our shop rate, and loss-of-use while the unit is down. Each plan puts a hard number on that exposure. The numbers below are the most you can owe for covered damage, per unit, per rental, in total.
| Equipment | No protection | Basic10% of rental | Standard20% of rental | Total35% of rental |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jet Ski | no limitfull repair cost plus loss-of-use | $1,500 | $500 | $0you pay nothing for covered damage |
| Pontoon | no limitfull repair cost plus loss-of-use | $2,500 | $1,000 | $0you pay nothing for covered damage |
| Wakeboat | no limitfull repair cost plus loss-of-use | $5,000 | $5,000 | $2,500 |
| UTV | no limitfull repair cost plus loss-of-use | $5,000 | $5,000 | $2,500 |
| Paddleboard | no limitfull repair cost plus loss-of-use | $250 | $100 | $0you pay nothing for covered damage |
Caps apply to covered damage only. Excluded causes, listed in the terms below, are never capped: the cost is yours in full on every plan. On the wakeboat and the UTV, read the plain-language section below before you buy.
How it works
- Pick a plan when you book. Basic, Standard, or Total shows at checkout as a single line, priced as a percentage of your rental. One plan applies to everything on your booking.
- Your deposit hold drops on Standard and Total. The hold at pickup is smaller on those two plans; Basic keeps the normal deposit. The exact holds are in the table below.
- If something happens, tell us before you leave the lot. We inspect at return, put the finding in writing, and tell you the number. For covered damage, that number stops at your plan's cap.
Deposit hold at pickup
| Equipment | No protection | Basic | Standard | Total |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jet Ski | $500 | $500no change | $250 | $250 |
| Pontoon | $500 | $500no change | $250 | $250 |
| Wakeboat | $1,500 | $1,500no change | $1,000 | $1,000 |
| UTV | $1,500 | $1,500no change | $1,000 | $1,000 |
| Paddleboard | $150 | $150no change | $100 | $100 |
The hold stays available for your cap and for anything no plan touches: fuel, late return, cleaning, lost gear. Where a cap exceeds the hold, you owe the balance up to the cap.
Straight talk on the wakeboat and the UTV
Read this before you buy a plan on those two units
On the Centurion wakeboat and the Can-Am UTV, the Basic and Standard caps are $5,000, which is what you would owe as our deductible anyway. On those two units, Basic and Standard do not reduce what you owe on ordinary damage under $5,000. What they do is put a ceiling on the worst day: if the loss is covered and the bill runs past $5,000, your share stops there instead of the value of a boat worth more than $180,000.
Total drops that ceiling to $2,500 and adds categories the other plans exclude, including rollover on the UTV. Hull damage on the wakeboat is not covered on any plan, and neither unit is covered for damage from collision, impact, or grounding to the hull or structure.
On the jet ski, pontoon, and paddleboard the caps are low enough to matter on everyday damage too. Those numbers are in the table above.
What it costs
Basic is 10% of your rental, Standard 20%, Total 35%, per booking, charged when you book. Your exact figure shows on your Booking Confirmation; it moves with your rate and with any discount you apply.
| Equipment | Duration and fee, Basic / Standard / Total | ||
|---|---|---|---|
| Jet Ski | 2 hr$20 / $40 / $70 | 4 hr$22 / $44 / $77 | Full day$35 / $70 / $122 |
| Pontoon | 4 hr$45 / $90 / $157 | Full day$70 / $140 / $245 | |
| Wakeboat | 4 hr$100 / $200 / $350 | Full day$150 / $300 / $525 | |
| UTV | 4 hr$35 / $70 / $122 | Full day$45 / $90 / $157 | |
| Paddleboard | 4 hr$4 / $9 / $16 | 8 hr$6 / $13 / $23 |
Figures at our base rates, rounded to the dollar. The fee is calculated on rental charges only, not on taxes, government fees, add-ons, or gratuity. It is non-refundable once you take the equipment.
Questions people actually ask
Is this insurance?
No. There is no insurer, no policy, and no risk pool. It is a clause in your rental agreement where we agree to limit what we will collect from you. It does not apply to your liability to anyone else, and it is not a substitute for your own policy.
Do I have to buy it?
No. Your rate and every other term are the same with or without it. You will be asked to accept a plan or decline, and you do have to answer.
What happens if I decline?
You are responsible for the full cost of any damage: parts, labor at our shop rate, and loss-of-use for up to 30 days at the daily rate. Your full deposit applies against it.
The wear ring on a jet ski, is that really taken care of?
On Standard and Total, yes: one wear ring replacement per rental, parts and labor, at no charge, even though sucking up sand in shallow water is the most common way it happens. On Basic it is not, and you pay the repair like any other excluded item.
How do you decide what a plan pays for?
We inspect at return, and we may take a closer look within three business days. If an engine may have taken on water we run a borescope through the cylinders and photograph what we find, and you can ask for copies. You get the finding, the decision, and the amount in writing.
I rented two things on one booking. How do the caps work?
One plan applies to every unit on your booking, and each unit gets its own cap from its own Schedule. A jet ski and a pontoon on one Standard booking means a $500 cap on the ski and a $1,000 cap on the pontoon.
Does my deposit still get held?
Yes. Standard and Total hold less; Basic holds the normal amount. The hold stays available for your cap and for anything no plan touches: fuel, late return, cleaning, lost gear.

These Master Terms and the Schedule for your equipment are what govern. The summaries above are a convenience and do not change anything below.
These Master Loss Damage Waiver Terms (the "Master Terms"), together with the Schedule for the equipment rented, govern the optional Loss Damage Waiver ("Damage Protection") offered by East Valley Marine Rentals, LLC DBA Wave and Ridge Adventure Rentals ("Company"). Damage Protection is offered in three plans: Basic, Standard, and Total (each a "Plan"). Damage Protection is an addition to the rental agreement signed by the person renting ("Renter") for the equipment rented (the "Vehicle," together with trailers and accessories the "Equipment"). It has no effect unless Renter elects to purchase a Plan and pays the Damage Protection Fee. All capitalized terms not defined here have the meanings given in Renter's rental agreement (the "Agreement"). Except as expressly modified here, every term of the Agreement remains in full force.
Version Control. The version of these Master Terms and Schedules in effect at the time of Renter's booking governs that rental. Superseded versions are retained and available on request.
1. THIS IS NOT INSURANCE
DAMAGE PROTECTION IS NOT INSURANCE. IT IS NOT AN INSURANCE POLICY, IT IS NOT ISSUED BY AN INSURANCE COMPANY, AND IT IS NOT REGULATED AS INSURANCE. IT IS AN AGREEMENT BY COMPANY TO LIMIT THE AMOUNT COMPANY WILL SEEK TO COLLECT FROM RENTER FOR CERTAIN DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE, IN EXCHANGE FOR A FEE.
DAMAGE PROTECTION DOES NOT COVER RENTER'S LIABILITY TO ANY OTHER PERSON. IT DOES NOT COVER INJURY TO ANY PERSON, DEATH, OR DAMAGE TO ANY PROPERTY BELONGING TO ANYONE OTHER THAN COMPANY. Renter remains solely responsible for all such claims and is encouraged to maintain Renter's own insurance coverage. Nothing in these Master Terms modifies the Insurance, Assumption of Risk, or Release, Covenant Not to Sue, and Indemnification provisions of the Agreement.
2. OPTIONAL PURCHASE, PLANS, AND FEE
Damage Protection is entirely optional. Renter may rent the Equipment without it. Renter's rental rate and all other terms are available with or without it.
The Three Plans. Damage Protection is offered in three Plans: Basic, Standard, and Total. What each Plan covers, the Liability Cap for each Plan, and the security deposit for each Plan are stated in the Schedule for the equipment rented. A higher Plan covers everything the Plan below it covers for the same Vehicle, plus the additional categories stated in the Schedule.
Fee. The Damage Protection Fee is a percentage of the rental charges for the Equipment shown on Renter's Booking Confirmation: ten percent (10%) for Basic, twenty percent (20%) for Standard, and thirty-five percent (35%) for Total, except for the Can-Am Maverick X3 UTV, for which the Fee is fifteen percent (15%) for Basic, twenty-five percent (25%) for Standard, and forty percent (40%) for Total, as stated in Schedule D. The Fee is calculated on rental line items after any discounts, and excludes taxes, government and tourism fees, add-ons, retail items, gratuity, and any damage or repair charges. The Fee is stated on Renter's Booking Confirmation.
One Plan, Whole Booking. If purchased, the elected Plan applies to every rental Vehicle on Renter's Booking Confirmation. Each Vehicle is subject to the Liability Cap for the elected Plan in its own Schedule. Renter may not elect different Plans for different Vehicles on a single booking, and may not purchase Damage Protection for some Vehicles on a booking and not others.
Non-Refundable. The Fee is fully earned when the Equipment is released to Renter and is not refundable, in whole or in part, including on early return.
Not Transferable. Damage Protection applies only to the rental period stated in the Booking Confirmation and does not extend to any period during which Renter retains the Equipment without Company's written consent.
3. WHAT DAMAGE PROTECTION DOES
If Renter purchases a Plan and complies with these Master Terms and the Agreement, then for Covered Damage occurring during the rental period, Renter's total financial responsibility to Company for that Vehicle is limited to the Liability Cap stated for the elected Plan in the Schedule for that Vehicle, regardless of the actual cost of repair or replacement. Company waives the balance, and waives the loss-of-use charges described in the Agreement as to Covered Damage.
Liability Caps by Equipment and Plan. Jet Ski: Basic $1,500.00; Standard $500.00; Total $0.00. Sea-Doo Switch Pontoon: Basic $2,500.00; Standard $1,000.00; Total $0.00. Centurion Ri245 Wakeboat: Basic $5,000.00; Standard $5,000.00; Total $2,500.00. Can-Am Maverick X3 UTV: Basic $5,000.00; Standard $5,000.00; Total $2,500.00. Stand-Up Paddleboard: Basic $250.00; Standard $100.00; Total $0.00. Each cap applies per Vehicle, per rental period, in the aggregate and not per item of damage.
Zero-Dollar Caps. Where the Liability Cap for the elected Plan is $0.00, Company waives the entire cost of Covered Damage and Renter pays nothing for it. Excluded Damage is never subject to any Liability Cap and remains Renter's responsibility in full at every Plan.
Security Deposit by Plan. At the Basic Plan the security deposit required by the Agreement is unchanged. At the Standard and Total Plans the deposit is reduced as follows: Jet Ski from $500.00 to $250.00 per Vehicle; Sea-Doo Switch Pontoon from $500.00 to $250.00; Centurion Ri245 Wakeboat from $1,500.00 to $1,000.00; Can-Am Maverick X3 UTV from $1,500.00 to $1,000.00; Stand-Up Paddleboard from $150.00 to $100.00 per board. The deposit remains available to Company for the Liability Cap and for all charges not covered by Damage Protection, including fuel, late return, cleaning, and lost or damaged accessories. Where a Liability Cap exceeds the deposit held, Renter remains obligated to pay the balance up to the Liability Cap.
Insurance Alignment - Read With Section 5. The Liability Cap applies only to a loss for which Company's physical damage insurance on the Vehicle responds, or would respond but for the deductible. If Renter's conduct causes that insurance to be denied, voided, or forfeited - which is what every exclusion in Section 5 describes - then the Liability Cap does not apply, Damage Protection has no effect as to that loss, and Renter is liable in full under the Damage, Loss, Downtime, and Return Condition provisions of the Agreement.
Read Your Schedule Before Purchasing. On the Centurion Ri245 Wakeboat and the Can-Am Maverick X3 UTV, the Liability Cap at the Basic and Standard Plans is $5,000.00, which is the amount Renter would owe as Company's insurance deductible in any event. At those Plans, Damage Protection does NOT reduce what Renter owes for ordinary damage costing less than $5,000.00 on those two Vehicles. Its purpose there is to protect Renter against a catastrophic loss. The Total Plan reduces the cap on those two Vehicles to $2,500.00. See Schedules C and D.
4. COVERED DAMAGE
"Covered Damage" means accidental physical damage to the Vehicle occurring during the rental period, in a category the applicable Schedule designates as covered at Renter's elected Plan, except where excluded by Section 5 or by that Schedule. Each Schedule states, for each Plan, what is covered and what is excluded for that Vehicle, including any size limits on surface damage. Damage in a category the Schedule does not designate as covered at Renter's elected Plan is Excluded Damage. Where damage falls within both a covered category and an exclusion, the exclusion controls unless the Schedule expressly states otherwise.
5. UNIVERSAL EXCLUSIONS
Damage Protection does NOT apply, the Liability Cap does NOT apply, and Renter remains fully responsible for the entire cost of repair or replacement plus labor at the rate stated in the Agreement's Fee Schedule, plus loss-of-use charges, for any damage arising from any of the following. These exclusions apply to every Plan and every Vehicle, in addition to the exclusions in the applicable Schedule.
Collision, Impact, and Grounding. Collision with or impact against any object, vessel, dock, or structure; grounding; and striking any submerged or partially submerged object; including any damage to the hull, deck, frame, or structure of the Vehicle arising from any of them. This exclusion applies at every Plan, including Total, and is subject only to the express carve-backs for drive system and lower unit components stated in the Schedules.
Unauthorized Operator. Operation by any person who has not presented valid government-issued identification to Company and signed Company's operator waiver, or who is under the minimum age required by the Agreement.
Alcohol and Drugs. Operation while any operator is under the influence of alcohol, marijuana, or any controlled or impairing substance.
Intentional, Reckless, or Willful Conduct. Damage caused intentionally, or by reckless or willful misconduct, or by continuing to operate after a malfunction, warning indicator, unusual noise, or impact that a reasonable operator would investigate.
Closed or Prohibited Areas. Operation in a closed, posted, restricted, or legally prohibited area, in violation of a no-wake zone or posted speed limit, or outside the State of Arizona without Company's written permission.
Saltwater. Any saltwater use or operation.
Theft and Abandonment. Theft, vandalism, or loss while the Equipment is left unsecured, unattended, or unlocked, and any damage arising from Renter's failure to protect or secure the Equipment as required by the Agreement.
Trailer, Towing, and Transport. Any damage to the trailer, and any damage to the Vehicle arising from towing, hitching, loading, unloading, launching, retrieving, road conditions, tire failure, bearing failure, improper tie-down, or use of a tow vehicle not rated for the loaded trailer weight. Damage Protection covers the Vehicle in use, not the trailer or the tow.
Fuel and Fluids. Any damage arising from fuel below the octane required by the Agreement or from the introduction of any incorrect fluid, and all fuel and refueling charges.
Accessories and Fees. Life jackets, keys, tie-down straps, fuel jugs, ropes, anchors, covers, helmets, safety gear, navigation devices, fire extinguishers, water toys, and all other accessories; and all fees under the Agreement's Fee Schedule, including fueling, cleaning, late return, and lost item charges.
Unreported Incidents. Any damage arising from an accident, impact, grounding, rollover, capsize, submersion, fire, or theft that Renter failed to report to Company immediately as required by the Agreement.
Injury and Third-Party Property. Injury to any person, death, and damage to any property belonging to anyone other than Company. See Section 1.
Misrepresentation. Any loss where Renter has misstated or concealed the circumstances of the damage, or has provided Company with false or altered documentation or photographs. In that event Damage Protection is void in its entirety as to that rental and the Fee is forfeited.
6. CONDITIONS
Compliance Required. Damage Protection applies only if Renter has complied with these Master Terms, the applicable Schedule, and the Agreement, other than as expressly waived by a Schedule.
Reporting. Renter must report any damage, accident, impact, grounding, rollover, capsize, submersion, fire, or theft to Company immediately, and in all events before returning the Equipment.
Internal Engine Inspection. Where a loss involves possible water ingestion or internal engine damage, Company may perform a borescope or other internal inspection of the cylinders and engine components and will record images at the time of inspection. Renter may request copies of those images. Renter's refusal to permit inspection makes the loss Excluded Damage.
Inspection and Determination. Company will conduct a preliminary inspection at return and may conduct a comprehensive inspection within three (3) business days, as provided in the Agreement. Company will determine in good faith whether damage is Covered Damage or Excluded Damage, and will provide Renter with a written statement of the damage found, the determination, and the amount charged. Company's determination of the scope of repair or replacement necessary to return the Equipment to rentable condition is made in Company's sole discretion, as provided in the Agreement, and Company has sole discretion in determining normal wear and tear.
Multiple Events. The Liability Cap applies once per Vehicle per rental period in the aggregate. Excluded Damage is charged in addition to, and is not limited by, the Liability Cap.
No Effect on Third Parties. These Master Terms are solely between Company and Renter. They create no rights in any other person and do not limit Company's right to recover from any third party responsible for damage, or Company's insurer's right of subrogation.
7. ELECTION
Renter must make an affirmative election. Purchasing a Plan at checkout, or initialing that Plan below, constitutes purchase of that Plan. Declining at checkout, or initialing DECLINE below, constitutes refusal. This election is a required part of the rental and cannot be left blank.
BASIC. I elect the Basic Plan for the Fee stated on my Booking Confirmation. I understand it is not insurance and that the Excluded Damage in Section 5 and in my Schedule remains entirely my responsibility.

8. GENERAL
These Master Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Arizona, and any legal proceedings will be conducted in Maricopa County, Arizona. If any provision is held invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in full force, and the Agreement remains fully enforceable without Damage Protection. These Master Terms may not be modified except by a written instrument signed by both parties; no oral statement of any employee or agent of Company modifies them. Order of precedence: the applicable Schedule controls over these Master Terms; these Master Terms and the Schedule control over the Agreement as to Covered Damage only; the Agreement governs everything else.
SCHEDULE A - JET SKI (2025 Sea-Doo Spark 3UP)
Liability Cap by Plan. Basic $1,500.00; Standard $500.00; Total $0.00. Per Vehicle, per rental period, in the aggregate. Renter acknowledges that a Liability Cap may exceed the deposit held and that Renter remains obligated to pay any balance up to the Liability Cap.
Security Deposit by Plan. Basic: unchanged at $500.00 per Vehicle. Standard and Total: reduced to $250.00 per Vehicle.
Covered at Every Plan. Theft of the Vehicle while properly secured, subject to the Theft and Abandonment exclusion in Section 5. Included Service at Standard and Total - Wear Ring. At the Standard and Total Plans, Company will perform one wear ring replacement per rental period, parts and labor, at no charge to Renter and without application of the Liability Cap. This included service is limited to a single replacement per rental period and confers no right to any other component, part, or service.
Covered at Total Only. The impeller. Cracks and punctures of the upper body and deck, above the rub rail.
Excluded at Every Plan - Impeller Housing and Pump Assembly. The impeller housing and pump assembly, regardless of cause.
Excluded at Every Plan - Hull Cracks and Structural Damage. Any crack, fracture, split, puncture, or delamination of the hull, regardless of size or cause, and any hull, deck, or structural damage arising from collision, impact, grounding, or striking any object, per Section 5. The Total Plan's upper-body crack coverage does not extend to the hull.
Excluded at Every Plan - Water Ingestion and Submersion. At every Plan, including Total, any damage arising from water entering the engine, including hydrolock and cylinder or crankcase water intrusion, and any damage arising from the Vehicle capsizing, rolling, swamping, sinking, or being submerged, in whole or in part.
Excluded at Every Plan - Towing Objects. Any damage arising from towing tubes, wakeboards, riders, or any other object or vehicle behind the Vehicle, which the Agreement prohibits.

Surface Damage Size Limits - Basic and Standard. At the Basic and Standard Plans, each individual mark is covered ONLY where it measures no more than one (1) inch in length, one quarter (1/4) inch in width, and one eighth (1/8) inch in depth, measured at its longest, widest, and deepest point. A mark exceeding ANY ONE of these dimensions is Excluded Damage in its entirety.
Covered at Standard and Total - Prop and Lower Unit. Damage to the propeller, skeg, and lower unit, including damage from striking a submerged or partially submerged object, notwithstanding the Collision, Impact, and Grounding exclusion in Section 5, which otherwise remains in full force. This carve-back is limited to the propeller, skeg, and lower unit and does not extend to the hull, deck, tubes, or any structural component.

SCHEDULE C - WAKEBOAT (Centurion Ri245)
Liability Cap by Plan. Basic $5,000.00; Standard $5,000.00; Total $2,500.00. Per Vehicle, per rental period, in the aggregate.
Security Deposit by Plan. Basic: unchanged at $1,500.00. Standard and Total: reduced to $1,000.00.
WHAT THE BASIC AND STANDARD CAPS MEAN - READ BEFORE PURCHASING. At the Basic and Standard Plans the Liability Cap is $5,000.00, which is the amount Renter would owe as Company's insurance deductible in any event. At those Plans, Damage Protection does NOT reduce what Renter owes for ordinary damage costing less than $5,000.00 on this Vehicle. Its purpose is to protect Renter against a catastrophic loss: if the Vehicle is destroyed or sunk and the loss is Covered Damage, Renter's total out-of-pocket responsibility stops at the Liability Cap instead of the full value of a vessel worth in excess of $180,000.00. The Total Plan reduces the cap to $2,500.00 and adds the categories stated below. Renter also acknowledges the Liability Cap exceeds the deposit held and that Renter remains obligated to pay any balance up to the Liability Cap.
Covered at Every Plan. Theft of the Vehicle while properly secured, subject to the Theft and Abandonment exclusion in Section 5.
This carve-back is limited to the propeller, skeg, and lower unit and does not extend to the hull, deck, or any structural component.
Covered at Standard and Total - Tower and Surf Equipment. The tower, surf racks, and wake equipment furnished with the Vehicle.
Covered at Standard and Total - Upholstery and Deck. Accidental damage to upholstery, seating, and deck surfaces, except as excluded below.
Covered at Total Only. Catastrophic loss: the Vehicle destroyed, burned, or sunk, where the Vehicle is a total loss and the cause is not an exclusion under Section 5 or this Schedule.
Excluded at Every Plan - Hull. Any damage to the hull of this Vehicle, regardless of size, cause, or Plan, including abrasion, scratches, gouges, cracks, punctures, and any damage arising from collision, impact, grounding, or striking any submerged or partially submerged object. There is no hull coverage on this Vehicle at any Plan.
Excluded at Every Plan - Water Ingestion. At every Plan, including Total, any damage arising from water entering the engine, including hydrolock and cylinder or crankcase water intrusion, and any damage arising from the Vehicle swamping, sinking, or being submerged. The sole exception is a loss in which the Vehicle is a total loss covered under the Catastrophic Loss provision above.
Excluded at Every Plan - Recreational Towing Violations. Any damage arising from towing wakeboarders, water skiers, tubers, or other persons other than in compliance with the Towing for Recreation provisions of the Agreement.
Excluded at Every Plan - Interior. Damage to interior carpeted and upholstered surfaces from shoes, stains, or burns.
SCHEDULE D - UTV (2025 Can-Am Maverick X3 Turbo DS)

WHAT THE BASIC AND STANDARD CAPS MEAN - READ BEFORE PURCHASING. At the Basic and Standard Plans the Liability Cap is $5,000.00, which is the amount Renter would owe as Company's insurance deductible in any event. At those Plans, Damage Protection does NOT reduce what Renter owes for ordinary damage costing less than $5,000.00 on this Vehicle. Its purpose is to protect Renter against a catastrophic loss. The Total Plan reduces the cap to $2,500.00 and adds the categories stated below, including rollover.
Accidental surface damage - scratches, scuffs, and dents - subject at the Basic and Standard Plans to the size limits below; at the Total Plan such surface damage is covered at any size.
