Can You Cancel or Move an Arizona Boat Rental?
One rule governs the money, and it is measured in hours. Here is what a reschedule actually gets you, and why weather is handled by moving your date.
Somebody in the group has gone quiet, the forecast has a monsoon cell in it, or the day you picked turned out to be the day of your kid's tournament. The rental is booked, the money is spent, and the question is suddenly urgent: can you get out of this, and what does it cost you? At Wave and Ridge there is exactly one rule that decides the money, and it is not complicated.
What is the cancellation policy on an Arizona boat rental?
Cancellation terms are shown at checkout before you pay. That is the whole policy at Wave and Ridge. There is no 24-hour version, no 72-hour version, no partial credit and no cancellation fee tier - one line, one number, and it applies the same way to a jet ski, a wakeboat, a UTV and a paddleboard.
So the only calculation you ever have to do is subtraction. Count the hours between right now and the time your rental is scheduled to start. If you are past your cancellation deadline, your best move is a reschedule conversation rather than a refund request.
The one-line version: Cancellation terms are in your booking agreement. Past the deadline the money is committed - but a phone call is still worth making, because moving a date is a different question from refunding one.
What the deadline is measured against
The clock runs to your rental start time - the time your block begins, not the time you planned to leave the house and not the time you arrive at the shop. That distinction matters more than it sounds, because you are asked to be at 724 E Scenic St an hour before your rental starts for hookup, life jacket fitting and the walkthrough. People sometimes count backwards from the arrival time and lose an hour they did not need to lose.
| Your rental starts | Cancel by this moment for a refund | After that |
|---|---|---|
| Saturday, 8:00 AM | Thursday, 8:00 AM | Committed - ask about moving the date instead |
| Friday, 1:00 PM | Wednesday, 1:00 PM | Committed |
| Monday, 7:00 AM | Saturday, 7:00 AM | Committed - and note we are closed Sunday, so reach us Saturday |
Our shop hours are Monday to Saturday, 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM. We are closed Sunday, so if a deadline falls on a Sunday, deal with it on Saturday.
That last row is the one that catches people out. Sunday is not a day you can reach the shop, so handle Monday-morning questions on Saturday. If your trip is early in the week, treat Saturday as your real deadline.
Can I reschedule instead of cancelling?
Yes, and it is almost always the better outcome for you. A cancellation ends the transaction; a reschedule keeps the money you have already paid attached to a new date. If the problem is when rather than whether, ask to move it.
Two practical notes. First, ask early - the further out you are, the more open dates there are to move into, and summer Saturdays fill first. Second, if you can flex to a weekday you will usually find both better availability and a better price: MIDWEEK takes 10% off Monday through Thursday, and it is our only standing discount code. A wakeboat that runs $999 for four hours or $1,499 for a full day is meaningfully cheaper on a Tuesday, on quieter water, with more room at the ramp.
Moving a date into the fall? Check the Canyon Lake closure before you pick your new day - the lake and its ramps shut to the public for maintenance later this year, while Saguaro Lake stays open throughout. We wrote up the dates and the alternatives in the Canyon Lake closure guide.
What happens if the weather is bad on my rental day?
Weather has its own answer, and it is a reschedule rather than a refund. We call it Weather Protection. If a storm is forecast for your scheduled day, contact us before you launch and we will move your booking to another date at no charge.
What it is not is a refund path. There are no weather refunds; cancellation terms are in your booking agreement. That is a deliberate line, because a monsoon forecast in August is a moving target and nobody wins if a 40% chance of storms turns into a refund argument at 6:00 AM.
The other half of it is about who makes the call. Once a rental has launched, we cannot recall it. Monitoring conditions on the water and deciding when to head in is the renter's judgement, not ours. So if the sky looks wrong before you leave the shop, that is the moment to pick up the phone - not after you are two miles up the lake.
Weather Protection, in three lines
What it covers, what it does not, and when to use it.
- Before you launch: storm forecast for your day? Call us and we move your booking to a new date at no charge.
- After you launch: conditions are yours to watch. If wind or lightning builds, head in - we cannot recall a rental once it is on the water.
- The money: weather is handled by moving your date. Cancellation terms are in your booking agreement.
If you want the practical version of reading an Arizona forecast before a lake day, that is its own subject - see how to read the monsoon forecast before you launch.
“Most people asking about a refund do not actually want their money back. They want a different Saturday.
Wave and Ridge Jet Ski, Boat, and UTV RentalsWhat if my group falls apart?
This is the most common version of the question we get, usually worded almost exactly like this: I still have not heard back from the other people in the party. Is there any way I could get a refund or rebook for a different day?
Start with the good news: a group shrinking does not by itself change your booking or your bill. One person books the whole rental, and a boat is priced per boat rather than per person. Two people who show up on a wakeboat rated for up to 16 passengers pay the same $999 for four hours as sixteen people would - the per-head cost goes up, but nothing about the reservation breaks. If your group is still forming, how group bookings and waivers work covers who books, who signs and who has to be 25 or older.
If the group going quiet means the whole day is off, you are back to the same rule. Before your deadline, cancel per your agreement or move to a date the group can actually confirm. When your day depends on people who have not answered yet, your cancellation deadline is your real decision deadline, not the rental morning.
Shrinking a booking rather than killing it
Dropping one of three jet skis is a change, not a cancellation, and it is a conversation rather than a form. Call or text early and you have the most room to work with.
Cancelling does not touch your deposit
A common worry, and an easy one to clear up: the refundable security deposit is taken at pickup, not at the time you book. If you cancel before your rental day, there is no deposit in play at all - there is nothing to release, because nothing was ever held.
On a rental you do take out, the deposit is refundable and comes back the same day, once the equipment is returned on time and in the same condition it left in. That is the whole mechanism.
Worth knowing about returns: there is a one-hour grace period after your scheduled return time. Past that, the late fee in your signed rental agreement applies - $150 an hour for a jet ski, $300 an hour for a boat. If you are running behind, call.
How to cancel or change a booking
- Work out where you are on the clock. Hours between now and your rental start time, checked against the deadline in your booking agreement.
- Decide what you actually want. A different day is usually worth more to you than the money back, especially if the reason is a forecast or a group that has not confirmed.
- Call or text (480) 637-4848. Texting reaches a real person and is usually the fastest route during shop hours. Email sales@waveandridge.com works too.
- Give us the booking name and the date. Say plainly whether you want to cancel or move it, and offer two or three dates that would work if it is a move.
- If it is weather, call before you launch. That is the whole trigger for a free reschedule under Weather Protection.
Frequently asked questions
What is the cancellation policy on an Arizona boat rental?
At Wave and Ridge the cancellation terms are in your booking agreement, shown at checkout before you pay. Cancellation terms are shown at checkout before you pay. There is no 24-hour version, no 72-hour version and no partial-credit tier, so the only thing you ever have to work out is how many hours are between now and your start time.
Can I get a refund if I cancel?
No. Once a booking is committed under those terms, there is no refund. That window exists because a boat or jet ski held for your name on a Saturday cannot realistically be re-let at short notice. If your plans have changed, call or text (480) 637-4848 - a reschedule is a different conversation from a refund, and it is worth having.
Can I reschedule instead of cancelling?
Yes, and it is almost always the better move. A reschedule keeps the money you have already paid attached to a new date instead of forfeiting it. Ask early: the further out you are, the more open dates there are to move into. Call or text (480) 637-4848 or email sales@waveandridge.com with your booking name and the dates that would work.
What happens if the weather is bad on my rental day?
That is our Weather Protection policy, and it is a reschedule, not a refund. If a storm is forecast for your scheduled day, contact us before you launch and we will move your booking to another date at no charge. Weather is handled by reschedule, not refund; cancellation terms are in your booking agreement.
Do I get a refund if it rains on my Arizona rental?
No. There are no weather refunds. What you get instead is a free reschedule if you reach us before you launch. Light rain rarely affects a lake day in Arizona, and monsoon storms usually pass, so most weather calls end up as a start-time conversation rather than a cancellation.
What if the weather turns after I am already on the water?
Once a rental has launched we cannot recall it, so monitoring conditions and deciding when to head in is the renter's call. If wind or lightning builds, get off the water. The free-reschedule offer applies before you launch, which is why the pre-launch phone call matters.
What if someone in my group drops out?
One person books the whole rental, so a group changing size does not by itself change your booking or your price - a boat rental is priced per boat, not per head. If the group falling apart means the whole day is off, the cancellation terms in your booking agreement apply; a reschedule is usually the better move.
Can I move my rental to a later time on the same day?
There is no separate policy for a time change - it comes down to what is still unclaimed on the calendar that day. Call or text (480) 637-4848 and we will tell you what is open. Remember that both pickup and return have to land inside our hours, Monday to Saturday, 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, and that you arrive an hour before your rental starts.
What happens if I just do not show up?
A no-show is treated as a same-day cancellation, so there is no refund. If you are running late rather than not coming, call us - late arrival eats into your rental block, but it is not a cancellation.
Does cancelling affect my security deposit?
No. The refundable security deposit is taken at pickup, not at booking, so if you cancel before your rental day there is no deposit in play at all. On a rental you do take out, the deposit is returned the same day once the equipment comes back on time and in the same condition.
How do I cancel or change a Wave and Ridge booking?
Call or text (480) 637-4848, or email sales@waveandridge.com. Include the name the booking is under and the date, and say whether you want to cancel or move it. Texting reaches a real person and is usually the fastest way to get an answer during shop hours, Monday to Saturday, 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
