Yes - here's exactly how it works, what it costs, and everything else you need to know before you go.

Looking to hit the water at Saguaro Lake on a jet ski? You're not alone - this desert oasis ringed by saguaro cacti is one of the most popular lakes in the Phoenix area. Here's exactly how to make it happen.

The Short Answer: Yes, But Not at the Marina

Jet Ski Rider On Open Arizona Lake Water

Here's what most people don't realize: Saguaro Lake Marina doesn't rent jet skis on-site. If you drive out expecting to rent one at the dock, you'll be disappointed.

The good news: Wave & Ridge Adventure Rentals rents brand-new 2025 Sea-Doo Spark 3UP jet skis for Saguaro Lake. You pick up at our Apache Junction shop, about 30 minutes from the marina, and tow to the ramp yourself. We comp $20 of a U-Haul truck rental on 4-hour and 8-hour rentals if you need a way to tow.

🚤 What's Included With Every Rental

Every jet ski rental from Wave & Ridge is built for a stress-free day on the water.

  • Life jackets for every rider
  • Full orientation and safety briefing before you launch
  • All your gear included - tubes, Bluetooth speaker, and tow ropes at no extra charge

About Saguaro Lake

Jet Ski Cruising Across An Arizona Lake

Saguaro Lake sits about 30 minutes from Mesa and 45 minutes from Phoenix, making it one of the most accessible desert lakes in the Valley. The lake stretches roughly 10 miles through the Tonto National Forest, with dramatic canyon views and, true to its name, saguaro cacti dotting the surrounding hillsides.

What makes Saguaro Lake worth the trip:

  • Wide-open water perfect for cruising at speed
  • Wild horses often spotted along the shoreline near Butcher Jones
  • Red rock formations and desert scenery from the water
  • Multiple coves to explore and take breaks in
  • Generally calm conditions, especially in the morning

A Note About Butcher Jones Bay

One thing to know: Butcher Jones bay is off-limits to motorized vessels. This popular recreation area is reserved for kayakers, paddleboarders, and swimmers. You can still cruise along the nearby shoreline and enjoy views of the bay from the main lake - plenty of open water remains.

What You Need to Know Before You Go

Jet Ski Rental In Action On An Arizona Lake

No Boating License Required

Good news for first-timers: Arizona does not require a boating license or safety course to operate a jet ski. We run a full orientation before every rental, covering the controls and lake-specific tips for Saguaro. To rent with Wave & Ridge, you must be 21 or older to sign the agreement, and operators must be at least 16.

Best Time to Visit

For the smoothest water, aim to get on the lake early - ideally before 10 AM. Afternoons can bring wind, especially in spring. Saguaro Lake is rideable year-round thanks to Arizona's mild climate, though we're closed Sundays (open Monday through Saturday, 7 AM to 7 PM).
