This is the one. About 25 minutes from Mesa and 5 minutes from our lot, Bulldog Canyon has a mix of beginner-friendly fire roads and more advanced rocky terrain that’ll test the Maverick’s suspension. The scenery is classic Sonoran Desert — saguaro forests, red rock washes, and views of the Superstition Mountains. On MDW, you might see a handful of other riders. Compare that to the hundreds of boats jammed into Saguaro Lake.
Apache Trail (AZ-88)
If you want scenery over challenge, Apache Trail is your ride. It’s a scenic touring route that passes Canyon Lake, Apache Lake, and the old mining town of Tortilla Flat. Low technical difficulty but high wow-factor. About 45–50 minutes from Phoenix and perfect for first-time riders who want to take in the views without pushing the vehicle hard.

- Closed-toe shoes: Boots or sneakers. No sandals on the trails.
- Long pants recommended: Trail dust, branches, and sun exposure make shorts a rough choice. Lightweight hiking pants are ideal.
